TRENTON, NJ (September 10, 2024) – In a second powerful display of unity and civic engagement, the Caribbean diaspora community came together once again for a virtual event last Thursday, September 5, 2024, to support Vice President Kamala Harris. The virtual call to action organized by RJ Strategies Group in partnership with ActBlue, aimed to mobilize and empower the Caribbean diaspora, sharing inspiring stories, expert insights, and actionable steps for civic participation.
The evening featured an impressive lineup of speakers and organizers, including:
Diana C. Richardson-Myrie, Former NYS Assemblywoman 43rd District
Numa St. Louis, District Representative and Policy Advisor in the United States House of Representatives, representing U.S. Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03)
Jasmine Metellus, Essex County Young Democrats President
Vicki-Ann Assevero, international lawyer, advocate and social entrepreneur with longstanding expertise in sustainable development
Lady Ira Lewis, Global Peace Ambassador
Dr. Ashlye V. Wilkerson, Motivational Speaker
Dr. Monica Sanchez, Community Advocate

The event, held via Zoom and live streamed on YouTube, provided a platform for the Caribbean community to express their support for Vice President Harris’s political endeavors, and emphasized the importance of unity and collective action. Attendees were inspired by the powerful speeches and the shared commitment to civic engagement and political participation.
“We cannot forget that Kamala will be attacked in ways as a woman that a man would never be attacked,” said Diana C. Richardson-Myrie, Former NYS Assemblywoman 43rd District. “As women, we face unique challenges in standing up and activating our voices, but I stood on business for this community, and I would do it all over again. It should not be lost on us to create a women’s agenda and organize around that because without us getting organized, we will be lost."
"Women of color have always challenged the status quo, breaking barriers and setting new standards for future generations,” said event organizer Roslyn Smith. “I believe Kamala Harris will exemplify strong executive leadership, paving the way for a more equitable society. The strength and resilience of the Caribbean Diaspora are paramount; by forming a solid coalition, we can uplift one another and ensure our collective voices are both heard and valued."
The speakers highlighted the significance of Kamala Harris’s role as a trailblazer in American politics, particularly for minority communities. The event also served as a call to action, encouraging participants to get involved in political processes and make their voices heard.
